Former Marine Jake Porter has far deeper scars than the one that marks his face. He struggles with symptoms of PTSD, lives a solitary life, and avoids relationships.
When Lyndie James, Jake’s childhood best friend, lands back in Holley, Texas, Jake cautiously hires her to exercise his Thoroughbreds. Lyndie is tender-hearted, fiercely determined, and afraid of nothing, just like she was as a child. Jake pairs her with Silver Leaf, a horse full of promise but lacking in results, hoping she can solve the mystery of the stallion’s reluctance to run.
Though Jake and Lyndie have grown into very different adults, the bond that existed during their childhood still ties them together. Against Jake’s will, Lyndie’s sparkling, optimistic personality begins to tear down the walls he’s built around his heart. A glimmer of the hope he’d thought he’d lost returns, but fears and regrets still plague him. Will Jake ever be able to love Lyndie like she deserves, or is his heart too shattered to mend?
An amazing book filled with love, hardship, and horses. The love between Lyndie and Jake is unmistakable but can they conquer the demons around them for a chance at love? When they were little they had this amazing bond and were two halves of one whole.
Lyndie has nothing but faith in God to guide and protect her. She is a great person that is strong, brave, and independent. She loves her family and spends a lot of time with her sick sister. I enjoyed reading about her and her faith in God is inspiring. Her family has a saying God is good. After everything they have gone through with Mollie’s, Lyndie’s sister, condition they still have faith that He is watching over them. Jake on the other hand is suffering from PTSD and lost his faith shortly after his men have died. He struggles with the fact that he is still alive while the others are not.
Definitely read this book. It is a love story that pulls you in from the very beginning. I also like how realistic this story happens to be. Many people struggle for many reasons but small things can bring people together or tear them apart. It just depends if you are willing to fight for what you want or what you believe in. So if you love horses, Texas, and a struggle for love then this book is a great read for you to enjoy.
Many thanks to Bethany House for giving me this book to read in exchange of an honest review. You have once again given me a wonderful book for me to enjoy. Thank you!
