Book summary:

To pay a seemingly impossible debt, Mariel Brandon has become a spy for Aaron, one of England’s deadliest minds. Aaron’s latest mission for the sharp-witted and daring Mariel is to find two people in a heavily fortified castle on the Isle of Skye, a castle headed by the clan MacDonald and the powerful Kieran. Mariel is to seduce Kieran and get him to take her to Skye. If she succeeds, Aaron promises to let Mariel’s young brother go, and to free both of them from their debt. If she fails, her brother will die.

What she doesn’t count on is craving Kieran MacDonald almost immediately upon meeting him. Now Mariel must keep a secret from Kieran—one that could get them both killed—as she tries to form a plan that will save her brother, get her out from under Aaron’s thumb once and for all, and keep her in Kieran’s strong arms forever.

If you like books that have to do with a Highland Hero then this book is for you. Surprisingly it took me four books in between the first few chapters before I started to get into the story. Once the characters got to the Castle on the Isle of Skye and Mariel met Kieran’s sister that is when the story started to really pull me in.

The characters are very interesting. Mariel is a strong woman with a rough childhood and because of that she became a spy for an evil man. Her job is to seduce a Scottish laird and make sure he takes her with him back to Scotland so that she could find the whereabouts of her next assignment. Kieran is the laird of his clan and will do everything to protect his people and his family. Which means that he will make sure that Mariel does not join his party back to Scotland. Of course he underestimates the temptress and finds himself bringing Mariel back with him. As the two become closer the secrets are harder to stay hidden and could shatter the small bond that has grown between them.

I like Mariel but I kept yelling at the book telling her that she should tell him the truth. But of course she did not. But then what would you do if you had a huge secret like her? Then there is Kieran, strong and powerful and protective of his clan. He does all that he can to avoid Mariel and not fall for her but finds it difficult.

I like that Mariel is a strong character and does everything in her power to save those she loves but is still human enough to be insecure with herself and her feelings. Most female heroin’s have a strong male to lean on and save the day.

I would like to thank Netgalley for giving me this opportunity to read an enjoyable book.
