Natalya knows a secret.
A magical Faberge egg glows within the walls of Russia’s Winter Palace.
It holds a power rooted in the land and stolen from the mystics.
A power that promises a life of love for her and Alexei Romanov.
Power, that, in the right hands, can save her way of life.
But it’s in the wrong hands.
If it was not for my friend finding this book at the library, I would not have had the chance to read this wonderful book. The story is about a girl that loves Alexei and they plan to be together forever. But Fate has other plans for the Romanov family and Natalya does whatever she can to save Alexei and his family. One night at a ball Alexei shows Natalya a Faberge egg, known as the Constellation egg, that has powers to protect the family. That is why recently Alexei has not been ill or had any serious injuries. But she does not believe him until he cuts his hand. After panicking and trying to stop the bleeding, he shows her his hand. It has magically been healed and the cut is gone. The egg protects whoever the Tsar loves which would one day include Natalya.
I enjoyed how the relationships in the story grew and intertwined with each other. Natalya and Emelia have grown closer with each other as the Russian Revolution gets closer to their home. Then one night during a riot, they both escape and find themselves without a home. They find shelter elsewhere where they soon meet Leo. Leo is supposed to help them to get to the train station so that they can get out of Russia while they can. Well, it would not be a story if everything went as planned. Things happen and plans change and Natalya is on a search to find the Constellation egg to keep it away from the reds. Will she find it in time to save Alexei and his family or will the reds find the constellation egg first? I do not want to give anything away, so you will have to read it to find out what will happen.
Although it was a good story, I did not care too much for the ending. I mean you can see it coming as you read but you still wish it ended a different way. The three characters are very different and want different things for themselves. One is loyal but wants to get to safety, one is searching for the egg for one reason, while the other wants the egg for another reason. But they work with each other in search of the egg, no matter their reasons.
